Tragically killed in a plane crash on Sunday 30th March. David and Richard were well respected and  prominent individuals within the UK and international motor sport industry who will be greatly missed.

David Leslie, who was 54, was best known for his wins in the British Touring Car Championship at the height of the super touring formula's popularity in the late 1990s, but he had also enjoyed a long and successful career in single-seaters and sportscars.

Richard Lloyd, who was 63, founded Richard Lloyd Racing, who ran Porsche 956s and 962s in the World Sportscar Championship. He also successfully ran Audis in the BTCC and at Le Mans, and managed Bentley's victorious return to Le Mans in 2003. More recently he developed the Jaguar XKR for the FIA GT3 Championship.

Our thoughts at this very sad time are with the families of both David, Richard and the other people on board the flight.

2008 will be the 50th Anniversary of this unique
and famous marque, the founder, Major Arthur
Mallock, having sold the first customer Mallock
U2 in 1958.

This landmark confirms the Mallock marque as
the longest-surviving racing car manufacturer
in continuous production in the United Kingdom
under the same family ownership.

This is a remarkable achievement in one of the
most financially volatile and unpredictable
business sectors in the world.

FESTIVAL BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary, Mallock cars
will provide the main events and focus of the
750 Motor Club Festival Weekend on 23/24
August at Silverstone. These will include a static
display, a Mallock "allcomers" race on Saturday
and a Grand Parade of Mallock cars past and
present on Sunday morning.

The main event on Sunday will be The Mallock
Gold Cup, a handicap race open to any Mallock
car, from an original Mk.2 to the current Mk.35
"Synergy" Clubmans formula car.

Richard and Ray Mallock, sons of the founder,
are making a special plea to all Mallock owners,
including hillclimb and sprint cars, to bring their
cars to Silverstone to race or display.

"The 750 Club has had strong links with Mallock
for over 50 years," says Richard, who currently
heads U2 production and sales.

"A magnificent celebration meeting for Arthur's
75th birthday was run in 1993 and we would
dearly love to surpass that large turn-out in
August."

Records show that a very high percentage of
the 400-to-500 cars produced are still in
existence and many are still competing and
winning on a regular basis.

If you own a Mallock and would like to support
what Arthur Mallock and his sons have created
over 50 years for the enjoyment of the club
competitor, by racing or displaying your car,
please email Peter Burnham at
peterburnham@dsl.pipex.com.

Cranfield University has attained full recognition for its MSc Motorsport Engineering and Management programme through the Motorsport Academy’s Employer Recognition Scheme for educators and trainers. The University now holds the approval “Motorsport Academy UK Recognised Educator (Post-Graduate)”.

The Motorsport Academy Employer Recognition Scheme recognises the successes of educators and trainers in their ability to provide the world-class skills and expertise that UK motorsport industry employers require from their workforce, while identifying the strengths and specialisms that exist within the national education and training provision. The Scheme was established to help ensure that UK motorsport sector retains its pre-eminence in the worldwide field of motorsport engineering.

The Employer Recognition Scheme has evolved from extensive research into the UK motorsport industry’s employment dynamics, particularly in the areas of industry recruitment and human resources support requirements, the changing profile of businesses, the dynamics of the industry’s workforce, education and training requirements and motorsport employer skills needs. The criteria focus on core technical and engineering requirements, as well as the soft skills required of employees in the motorsport sector.

Cranfield University participated in an assessment cycle that comprised on-site inspections of resources and facilities, a presentation and Q&A session to an esteemed motorsport industry panel, and an assessment of its programmes against motorsport workforce attribute requirements. Swansea Institute of Higher Education has also received recognition.

Said Eric Newell, Chief Executive of the Motorsport Academy, “We are delighted at the success of Cranfield University and Swansea Institute of Higher Education in attaining recognition through our Employer Recognition Scheme.

“We further congratulate them on their focus on and record with satisfying motorsport employer needs. The awards will further help those looking for careers in motorsport to find the right programmes and educational providers for them, as well as employers looking for the right institutions to partner with in upskilling their workforce.”

Cranfield’s MSc Motorsport Engineering and Management is directed through its own motorsport steering committee that includes leading figures and organisations in the sector. Students complete a number of MSc modules and benefit from the opportunity to undertake group projects working on relevant industry issues. The Cranfield MSc is also accredited by the IMechE.
